Whoa… How I didn’t know about Bighorn Tavern until now is making me scratch my head! (Insert thinking emoji!)  My boyfriend brought half of his Bighorn Chicken Sammie to me for lunch last week, and I devoured it in about 1 minute. Hands-down, it was the best sandwich I have had in a VERY long time!  It is the one in the photo above. Then last night, we had the pleasure of eating dinner at the Lakeside location.  I ordered their Bighorn Chili and it was absolutely to die for!  I want to go back at least once a week to treat my tastebuds to more of their delicious goodness in what appears to be in every dish they create here.  To top it off, the vibe is super relaxed, inviting and friendly, with excellent service throughout.  Do note… If you visit Bighorn Tavern’s website, the menu does not show everything they have to offer.  You just have to go there to see (and taste) the rest!  Visit BighornTavernReno.com for more about these fantastic local establishments.

This just might be the charming home in the Old Southwest Reno you’ve been waiting for!  Only a few blocks from the Truckee River and Crissie Caughlin Park, 2035 California Ave is settled in one of Reno’s more mature and established neighborhoods, where neighbors out for a walk actually greet you with a smile and “hello!” The updated home features 3 beds/2.5/baths/2-car garage on 1/5 acre property with a tasteful, variety of landscape and hardscape and a super inviting front porch to soak in the sun and the snowy Sierra mountain view. Email, or text/call me at 775-233-0682 if you’re interested! Denise Hallerbach, Broker/Owner, Intero Reno (B.1001182.CORP).

THE BLACK CROWES present SHAKE YOUR MONEY MAKER
FRIDAY, JULY 22, 2022 (8 pm)
GRAND SIERRA RESORT – GRAND THEATREThirty years ago, The Black Crowes led by brothers Chris and Rich Robinson, released their debut album Shake Your Money Maker. The album was, as Rolling Stone described, “a guitar-party cracker that marries Southern R&B crunch and Anglo cock-strutting attitude.”  At a time when journalists were mourning the death of rock as cheesy pop and hair metal dominated the charts, The Black Crowes emerged from Atlanta to resuscitate it.  The authentically gritty blues-rock album, whose title is a homage to blues legend Elmore James, went double platinum in its first year. The Black Crowes were named “The Most Rock n’ Roll Rock n’ Roll Band in the World” by Melody Maker and the band didn’t disappoint. Catch The Black Crowes live at the Grand Sierra Resort when they bring this iconic album to Reno! Tickets may be purchased in advance at GrandSierraResort.com.

MIDTOWN RENO

For those of you who have lived in Reno-Sparks a while, you may remember one of the biggest social mixers of the month, “First Thursday,” that used to be held at the Nevada Museum of Art.  Since COVID-19, this fantastic monthly event has gone bye-bye. However, in true Reno style, we have managed to create a NEW First Thursday in Midtown, showing just how beautifully our community can rally.  Treat yourself to a day at your favorite Midtown Reno retailers, services, bars, and restaurants on March 3 and every First Thursday.  Our local businesses have planned exciting in-store events including food and beverage tastings, local art exhibits, live music, and more.  Start the first weekend of March off right, and GO!  For more information, visit RenoMidtown.com.

Calling all tennis fans (including myself)!!  How often do you get the chance to watch professional tennis, particularly Davis Cup, live in Northern Nevada?  Answer: hardly ever!  This is the very first time (to my knowledge) that a Davis Cup match has been played in Northern Nevada, and the last matchup in Nevada took place at Caesars in Las Vegas in 1995. Five of the US’s top-ranked tennis players will compete against Columbia before our very eyes in a showdown we won’t want to miss.  Learn more about the players, the matchup, and purchase tickets to the event at USTA.com

Broadway in the H.O.O.D., a national theater program based out of Las Vegas, makes its way to Reno Little Theater for two performances of American Son.  The explosive drama takes place in real-time in the waiting room of a police station over the course of one evening.  Here, an estranged biracial couple collides as they confront an unexpected crisis involving their son, the police, and an abandoned car.  An exchange of contrasting histories and backgrounds reveal assumptions as they try to find out what happened to their son.  This riveting Broadway play was also adapted into a Netflix television special.  For showtimes, advanced ticket sales and more info about COVID-19 rules, visit RenoLittleTheater.org.

GRAND SIERRA RESORT

Singer/musician Chris Daughtry made a huge impression on the post-grunge scene and the world when he starred on Season 5 of American Idol back in winter/spring 2006. After a surprising 4th place finish (I thought he should have won that season) he gathered his crew and formed the instantly successful rock band Daughtry. The band’s self-titled debut album was released in November that same year and in nine weeks was Number One on the Billboard chart. Among Daughtry’s most popular hits are “Home,” “What About Now” and “Life After You.” Get to know Daughtry and find the link to purchase tickets at GrandSierraResort.com.

THE GO-GO’S
FRIDAY, MARCH 25, 2022 (8 pm)
GRAND SIERRA RESORT

I distinctly remember the first time I was hooked on the infectious songs of The Go-Go’s as a kiddo. My big sister and her besties allowed me to hang out with them in her friend’s room where we sang along to the record player blasting The Go-Go’s debut album, Beauty and the Beat. T hat hit album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, spawning hit singles like “Our Lips Are Sealed” and “We Got the Beat.” The band’s follow-up album Vacation, experienced a similar success in 1982, landing two more hits on the charts and reaching certified Gold. Following an initial breakup in 1985, the band’s members embarked on various solo ventures, reuniting periodically over the years to record and tour.  Enjoy a night of ALL the songs you know and love from the early 80’s! Ticket may be purchased through GrandSierraResort.com!

COMEDIAN ANJELAH JOHNSON-REYES
SATURDAY, MARCH 26, 2022 (8 pm)
SILVER LEGACY RESORT CASINO – GRANDE EXPOSITION HALL

I personally fell in love with Anjelah Johnson-Reyes‘ comedy when her hilarious “Nail Salon” video went viral around 2008. The former “Oakland Raider cheerleader-turned stand-up-comedian” moved to LA when she was about 23 years old when a friend suggested she join a joke-writing class. Improv classes quickly led to her headlining her own shows.  Today, Anjelah is one of America’s favorite comedians.  She has a book that is about to be released, she hosts a podcast and she tours the country performing side-splitting comedy to sold-out audiences. You go, Girl!!  Check out the “Anjelah Johnson and her Husband Argue Latino Culture Rankings” video here from 2021, and buy your tickets to see her live in Reno at Anjelah.com.
