Reno-Tahoe Comedy knows exactly what Reno needs… The hilarity of up-and-coming entertainer, “actor/writer/comedy/person,” self labeled by comedian Leah Rudick who makes her way from LA to the The Theatre & South 40 stage for some much needed laughter.  Rudick’s viral comedy and character videos have amassed her nearly one million followers (and counting) on TikTok & Instagram. WINTERWONDERGRASS 2023

More than just a music festival, WinterWonderGrass puts a spotlight on community and interpersonal connection, as well as the overall positive impact the festival’s organizers have on the environment.  Returning after a long last 3 years due to the pandemic, WinterWonderGrass aims to cultivate and nurture the relationship between nature, authentic music, and communal family, creating a vehicle for inspiration, and features twenty-five Bluegrass and Americana bands across four stages. Choreographed by Alexander Van Alstyne, Frozen is the captivating story of the Snow Queen written by Hans Christian Andersen.  When their kingdom becomes trapped in a perpetual winter, Alana joins forces with mountaineer Kai to find Alana’s sister, Snow Queen Ella, and break the icy spell. This classic story is filled with captivating dance, intrigue, and is fun for the entire family. Jason Altieri will be conducting the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra as they perform this exciting score live at the Pioneer Center. RENO JAZZ FESTIVAL

The beloved Reno Jazz Festival makes its return to University of Nevada Reno’s School of the Arts, bringing with it seven phenomenal events within the span of three days.  Whether you’re a life-time jazz fanatic or just discovering the many layers within the jazz genre, the Reno Jazz Festival welcomes all wanting to take their appreciation of jazz to the next level.  Here is a quick glance of this year’s events:

Joel Ross + Manzanita Quintet. “Joel is not only one of the preeminent instrumentalists of this era, but he is one of the greatest musical visionaries of his generation.” —Blue Note Records
Marquis Hill- New Gospel Revisited.  Hill commands a nimble technique, a fluid way of improvising and a pervasively lyrical manner. Unlike many young trumpeters, he doesn’t oversell his statements, instead moderating volume and emphasizing beauty of sound.” —Chicago Tribune
Julian Tanaka – Festival Composer.  “Tanaka plays with colors and sonorities with all the enthusiasm of a kid in a candy store. He writes saxophone solos that sound straight out of Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Sixth Symphony.” —Fanfare
Workshops + Daytime Concerts.  Participants and attendees have access to two full days of daytime concerts and jazz workshops, covering a range of topics presented by accomplished jazz musicians and artist educators from around the nation.
Jam Sessions.  Festival participants will have the chance to collaborate and improvise alongside peers and in a separate jam session.

VIRGINIA CITY GRAND PRIX
SATURDAY, APRIL 29 – SATURDAY, APRIL 30, 2023
VIRGINIA CITY, NV

First run in 1971, the Virginia City Grand Prix has established itself as one of the most unique off-road motorcycle races of its kind.  It combines a challenging race experience with the energy and charm of an authentic “old west” mining town that is designated as a National Historic Landmark.  Join thousands of spectators as nearly 1,000 racers compete in 35 different classes at one of the largest and most competitive off-road motorcycle races in the west.  Races begin on C Street so onlookers can get an up-close and personal view of this high-speed race before riders zip to the off-road portions of the race.  Admission to attend VC Grand Prix is free.  For more information about this historic event, visit VCGP.com.

Have you had enough?  Mother Nature says “NO, YOU HAVE NOT!!”  It’s possible we are headed for the snowiest winter in recorded history. We have already seen over 56 feet fall in the Sierras with no end in sight. Over the last 77 years, the most snow to have dumped was 67.7 feet back in 1951-1952.  Will we break the record in the coming weeks?? The bigger question is, “Can you find a parking spot at Palisades Tahoe so you can ride the fresh pow?”  Should you decide to head up the mountain, here are the current conditions and trail reports for your favorite resorts… Enjoy!
