Brüka Theatre’s 27th Season continues with a fantastical, sci-fi drama, The Children.  A transfer from London’s Royal Court Theatre, The Children was Lucy Kirkwood’s first Broadway play that debuted in 2017.  It tells the story of two retired scientists who have settled into an isolated cottage by the sea as the world around them crumbles, when an old friend arrives with a frightening request. ALPENGLOW MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL – WINTER

You want improv?  You got it, at The Improv Olimpix of the Overly Extraordinary Players. It’s a weekend-long, competition-style improvisational tournament where audiences enjoy two teams challenging each other in a series of theatrical prompts, which will then be scored by a panel of local celebrities and personalities. On a much more serious note, Teens Speak Out…Glad You Are Here, is taking place this weekend at Reno Little Theater.  The performance is a synopsis of “Just Like I Wanted,” anarrative through a series of flashbacks by Joey, a 16 year old boy who has taken his own life. Joey shows us the life he used to lead and why he chose to end it.  But we also see the unexpected effect of his death on his classmates, teachers, and his family.  Note that this show deals with a very sensitive subject matter, possibly triggering to some audience members. Whether you are an aspiring artist or just getting started, the Nevada Museum of Art offers classes and workshops in a variety of media and levels of experience you may want to explore.  Here is what’s on the schedule this weekend:
Thursday, Feb 20: Water Color Open Studio.  This class is designed for returning students and those with some experience.  Students should have a personal work in progress and working toward completion. It opens with the introduction of a challenge or technique that may be applied during the open session.
Thursday, Feb 20: The Art of Meditation.  Learn techniques for enriching your meditation experience.  This workshop is perfect for everyone practicing meditation to gain inner peace and wellness.
Friday, Feb 21: Fused Glass Earring and Pendant Workshop.  Learn to cut flat glass, use frits, stringers, dichroic sparkly glass, and even pebbles to create beautiful hand-made jewelry.
Saturday & Sunday, Feb 22 & 23: Stylized African Animals in Acrylic.  Exercise the use bold colors, modern patterns and engaging compositions, and use acrylic paint combined with colored pencil to create inspired portraits of African animals.
Saturday, Feb 22: Girls’ Night Out with Rainbow Palette Painting.  Bring your friends and spend a fun and relaxed evening making art and drinking wine!

Get in touch with nature at Galena Creek Visitors Center this weekend with Amazing Birds of Prey.  Master Falconer Marie Gaspari Crawford of Palomino Valley will bring at least one of her fabulous birds of prey, and will talk about the long history of falconry, the numerous fascinating environmental adaptations these birds possess, the influence they have over our world and conservation efforts to protect raptors.
