CIRCUS CIRCUS 24 HOUR MURAL MARATHON

CIRCUS CIRCUS – WALL ON VIRGINIA STREET
As part of Reno Art FestCircus Circus at THE ROW once again presents its 24 Hour Mural Marathon. Competitors will have only this weekend to paint an original mural 19’7” feet wide by 14’ high, which will become a permanent art installation on the side of the Circus Circus building. Seven murals in total from seven different artists will face Virginia Street in the heart of the Arch District in downtown Reno, one of downtown’s busiest intersections for motorists and travelers.  Working around the clock, these talented artists compete for cash awards up to $3,000.  Visit RenoArtFest.org for more info.

Gather your loved ones, and settle down Friday evening for a good old fashioned marshmallow roast!  Friday Night Campfires at Galena Creek Visitor Center are happening weekly through August 2.  You’re invited to bring your low-back chairs, blankets, bug spray and flashlights for a memorable and mellow evening of camaraderie and fun. Each week local entertainment stage the stage for locals and visitors alike, and this week the event features Aria 51: Ukulele in the Forest. Conceived at Chico State in the early ’90’s, The Mother Hips enjoyed a simple start, performing at frat parties while the original co-members “studied.”  The band’s alternative, Indie and folk rock style caught on, leading them to perform at club shows and regional tours while creating a national buzz.  Before they could even graduate, a record deal was made.  Nearly three decades later, the San Francisco-based group has produced 10 studio albums and is hailed by The San Francisco Chronicle as “one of the Bay Area’s most beloved live outfits.”  Check out this video of “It’ll Be Gone” released in 2018 and see them live and FREE of charge at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City this Saturday night!  For more info, visit Artown.org.

Saturday, July 20.  Reno Art Works is a collective of 18 artists working out of a warehouse on Dickerson Road. Art-lovers are invited to observe the artists in action, as well as participate in hands-on art projects and purchase local works, should they desire.

Behold, the talent of violin virtuosos Sons of Mystro. This insanely talented musical duo will serenade you to ten different genres of music using the violin instead of their voices to express a song’s lyrics.  The brothers from Broward Florida, Umoja and Malcolm McNeish, grew up with heavy musical influence from their father, DJ Maesto, who performed from NY to CA and many states in between, from the ’70s through the ’90s.
