Now playing at Brüka Theatre… Victor Victoria!   This magical, musical comedy takes place in Paris, 1934, and tells an entertaining story of mistaken identity, sexual roleplaying, love, innocence and sight gags.  When refined British soprano Victoria Grant finds herself down on her luck in Paris, she discovers to her dismay, that producers and nightclub owners are looking for a sound that is much less “legitimate” than hers. The 4th Annual Reno Chalk Art & Music Festival is one of Reno’s fastest growing art events, and it’s expected to be better than ever this year.  The 3-day artist demonstration and competition brings in local and visiting artists to show off their mad skills with the ground as their palette.  Awards are presented to the best in team, individual and student divisions for Use of Color, Use of 3D, People’s Choice and Best Production of a Master’s Art. With Artown events around Reno in full swing this month, so too is Reno Art Fest, a traditional street fair in Downtown Reno that features an open air art market with works from both local and regional artists.  The event also brings the best mural artists around, competing around the clock in the Circus Circus 24-hour Mural Marathon, offers interactive activities for kids in the “CR8TIV Zone,” dazzles event-goers with a performance from “Controlled Burn” (Northern Nevada’s All-Inclusive Fire Performance Group), and serves tasty food truck bites and ice cold beverages.  For more info, please visit RenoArtFest.org.

CIRCUS CIRCUS 24 HOUR MURAL MARATHON

CIRCUS CIRCUS – WALL ON VIRGINIA STREET

As part of Reno Art Fest, Circus Circus at THE ROW once again presents its 24 Hour Mural Marathon. Competitors will have only this weekend to paint an original mural 19’7” feet wide by 14’ high, which will become a permanent art installation on the side of the Circus Circus building. Seven murals in total from seven different artists will face Virginia Street in the heart of the Arch District in downtown Reno, one of downtown’s busiest intersections for motorists and travelers.  Working around the clock, these talented artists compete for cash awards up to $3,000.  Visit RenoArtFest.org for more info.

Gather your loved ones, and settle down Friday evening for a good old fashioned marshmallow roast!  Friday Night Campfires at Galena Creek Visitor Center are happening weekly through August 2.  You’re invited to bring your low-back chairs, blankets, bug spray and flashlights for a memorable and mellow evening of camaraderie and fun. Each week local entertainment stage the stage for locals and visitors alike, and this week the event features Aria 51: Ukulele in the Forest. THE MOTHER HIPS

Conceived at Chico State in the early ’90’s, The Mother Hips enjoyed a simple start, performing at frat parties while the original co-members “studied.”  The band’s alternative, Indie and folk rock style caught on, leading them to perform at club shows and regional tours while creating a national buzz.  Before they could even graduate, a record deal was made.  Nearly three decades later, the San Francisco-based group has produced 10 studio albums and is hailed by The San Francisco Chronicle as “one of the Bay Area’s most beloved live outfits.”  Check out this video of “It’ll Be Gone” released in 2018 and see them live and FREE of charge at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City this Saturday night!  For more info, visit Artown.org.

Get a “behind the scenes” look at where and how local Reno art is made!  Open Studio Art Demonstrations are happening all weekend and next Saturday, July 20.  3 artist studios/lofts are opening their doors to share an up-close look with the public as part of Reno’s ArtownCelebration.  All Open Studios are FREE!Saturday, July 13.  Artemisia Studiospresent open art studios, live painting and drawing from models, a photo booth station and an exhibition of studio artists’ work.  Food/beverages are offered.
Saturday-Sunday, July 13-14.  Riverside Artis Lofts present works of fine art displayed in the private studios of working artists. All works for sale, and select studios will be open to the public.
Saturday, July 20.  Reno Art Works is a collective of 18 artists working out of a warehouse on Dickerson Road. Art-lovers are invited to observe the artists in action, as well as participate in hands-on art projects and purchase local works, should they desire.

MIDTOWN CONCERT SERIES presents SONS OF MYSTRO

Behold, the talent of violin virtuosos Sons of Mystro. This insanely talented musical duo will serenade you to ten different genres of music using the violin instead of their voices to express a song’s lyrics.  The brothers from Broward Florida, Umoja and Malcolm McNeish, grew up with heavy musical influence from their father, DJ Maesto, who performed from NY to CA and many states in between, from the ’70s through the ’90s.
