So you live in Reno, Nevada where you have some of the easiest access to some of the world’s greatest skiing. You have little ones who want to learn how to shred those runs, but find ski lessons at the resorts to be prohibitively expensive. The solutions is Reno’s very own Sky Tavern. Sky Tavern is the oldest non-profit ski/snowboard training program in the country, and has given tens of thousands of Reno natives their start on the slopes. Olympic Gold Medalist, David Wise, even started at Sky Tavern! It’s a volunteer staffed program, operating winter weekends with the help of parents pitching in time each weekend. Some parents are instructors, while others work in support roles such as the cafeteria, lift lines or other positions. Programs and levels vary, but all have two common factors… affordability and convenience! Even mom and dad are invited to learn! Opening Day is January 19, so visit SkyTavern.org to learn more and sign up for the season now!

6 DROPOFF LOCATIONS
Sadly, the Christmas season has come to an end, and it’s time to take down the twinkles and bring your home back to normalcy, if you haven’t done so already. What are you to do with your Christmas tree now? Rather that dump it in the landfill or our beautiful desert, it’s super easy to recycle it! Over the last 15 years, Keeping Truckee Meadows Beautiful’s Christmas Tree Recycling Program has saved nearly 150,000 trees from the dump. They are chipped into mulch that is used for park and weed abatement projects, and is available for free to area residents for their own gardens. Learn more about the program and where to recycle your tree at KTMB.org.
