RENO TAHOE COMEDY – PIONEER UNDERGROUND

Up-and-coming comedian Aida Rodriguez is taking the world of entertainment by storm with her wit, strong performances, and charismatic personality.  From the moment she takes the stage, her audience is engaged whether in laughter or in thought, as she broaches taboo topics and dives into subjects circling race, gender, sexuality and family dynamics.  Rodriguez was recently hand-picked to appear in the 2016 movie The Comedian starring Robert De Niro.  HERE is a funny video of Aida talking about “Single Mom Rage.” Pretty darn funny!  She brings her side-stitching comedy to the Pioneer Underground’s Reno-Tahoe Comedy this Thursday-Saturday, so visit RenoTahoeComedy.com to buy your tickets to one of the 4 shows now.

THE FOREIGNER
THURSDAYS-SUNDAYS THROUGH JUNE 16
RENO LITTLE THEATER

This fun and funny farce from the 1980’s just happens to have renewed relevance at the moment. Through the goofiness of it all, there is a true reflection of the ongoing battle between closed-mindedness and open-heartedness in Reno Little Theater’s production of The Foreigner.  Written by the late American playwright Larry Shue, The Foreigner features local actors in Reno’s volunteer-driven and longest-running community theater.  Now located in Midtown Reno, you’re invited to settle in and enjoy the intimate experience at Reno Little Theater.  For more info, online ticket sales and special offers, please visit RenoLIttleTheater.org.

RENO TAHOE ODYSSEY

If you have the stamina and endurance to run at all hours of the day and night, and have a fun group of friends who like to do the same, you may want to participate in the 13th Annual Reno-Tahoe Odyssey.  This very popular, 178-mile relay run begins in Downtown Reno at Wingfield Park and ends at Idlewild Park, making a counter-clockwise circle around North, West, and South Tahoe, into Genoa and Carson City, up to Virginia City, then back down to Reno.  Participants will be spotted during the ’round-the-clock 2-day event following teammates in decorated vans with spunky themes.  If you’re only up for a portion of this beast-of-a-relay, you may also choose to run the Capital Odyssey or the Comstock Odyssey.  For more details and registration, please visit RenoTahoeOdyssey.com.

PAULA POUNSTONE
SATURDAY, JUNE 1 (8 pm)
PIONEER CENTER for the PERFORMING ARTS

Fall in love with the queen of interviews, Paula Poundstone, this weekend!  The self-proclaimed “funny babe” dropped out of high school to bus tables at IHOP and worked as a bicycle messenger. She began doing stand-up at open-mic nights in Boston 40 years ago, then traveled across the US in the early 80’s by way of a Greyhound bus, hitting open-mic nights at comedy clubs along the way until she settled in San Fancisco.  It was there that Robin Williams discovered Poundstone and encouraged her to take her talent to LA.  Since then, she has forged a successful career as a comedian, actress, author, interviewer and commentator, and was honored by Comedy Central as #88 on the 2014 list of the “100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time.”  HERE is a great old video of her being interviewed in 1993 about sex, junk food and life.  Enjoy an evening with Paula Poundstone, and get your tickets at PioneerCenter.com.
